Elm Creek Park Reserve

Natural Resource Services, Inc is proud to be involved with a significant prairie restoration project at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove, MN.

Working for the Three Rivers Park District, NRS was contracted to remove invasive tree and shrub species and restore native prairie grasses on a 36 acre section of the park.   Partnering with Mike’s Tree Service, this initial removal work was completed in January of 2020.  The following spring, the site was prepped for seeding and then a custom mix of native prairie grasses was sown across the site.

Following the seeding, NRS crews have been actively managing the site in order to facilitate the establishment of the native prairie grasses while controlling re-emerging invasive species.  This work will continue through the 2021 growing season.

Funding for the project provided by a Conservation Partners Legacy grant. Additional information can be found on the Three Rivers Park website.

For a great overview of the project, please check on this story and interview with John Moriarty, Three River Park’s Senior Manager of Wildlife.
